Ny name is Mike Kelly and I am a candidate for Councilor in Ward 2, Plattsburgh. For over two years, I have been the chair of the City Democratic Committee in Ward 2. I have been an active campaigner for Democratic candidates in our Ward for all elections during that time. I have also arranged poll worker assignments in our ward for each election. I have conducted get-out-the-vote phone banks for Democratic candidates and have driven voters to the polls.
 
My candidacy for Councilor is a continuation of the same grass roots efforts used to energize Democratic Party supporters and get them to the polls. Plattsburgh belongs to its people. Once empowered to think that way, voters realize that they do in fact wield all of the power to control their city's future. One of the best parts of campaigning is taking all the time the voters want to spend expressing their views. It's their city, and they have the best ideas to make it better.
 
As far as the planks of my platform, I am proud to be a Democratic Party member and supporter. I believe in equal rights for all, good jobs and benefits, good education systems, fiscal responsibility, environmental stewardship, dynamic economic growth and a fair shot at the American Dream for all of Plattsburgh. A child who is poorly fed, poorly housed and poorly educated misses out on the American Dream, and it is the duty of all of us to make sure that does not happen to any child. I have worked as a human services professional in government and non-profit sectors, and I have worked in Fortune 500 companies. I understand how IT can improve lives, and I will use that expertise to make Plattsburgh a cutting-edge city in high tech, so that we can attract the best of companies to our fair city.
