County Committee Chair: Marty Mannix

Marty Mannix (email)

Vote for Marty Mannix for Clinton County Treasurer

Marty was born (11-7-41) in Washington, DC (how's that for political roots).  His grandfather was Superintendent of Roads in Brooklyn in the 1920's and he passed out his first political literature in support of a Democrat at the age of 10 on the streets of Plattsburgh.

In 1968 his wife, Peg, and he returned to Plattsburgh and he immediately became involved with the Democrat Party in the Town of Plattsburgh.  In 1975 Marty was elected as councilman and remained in service for 18 of the next 20 years.  During that time he was very active at both the Town and County level.  Marty even had the wonderful opportunity of attending the Democratic National Convention in Miami in 1972.  In 1995, Marty ran unsuccessfully for Supervisor in the Town of Plattsburgh.

After that defeat he made a promise to his employer not to run for office while he was working.  Its a promise he kept until his retirement in July of 2004.  He immediately became again heavily involved in Town of Plattsburgh Democrat politics and in 2007 successfully ran for the position of Town of Plattsburgh Councilman, a position which he holds today in addition to his role as Clinton County Democratic Party Chair.

Marty's interest in the position of County Chair grew out of a shared frustration with the contentious issues manifesting themselves within the County Committee.  "I saw these as negatively affecting campaigns and potentially our party's ability to attract qualified candidates."  He sees himself as a consensus builder and a friend to most of the people on the committee.  Marty reiterates: "It is my goal to re-establish our party's focus on attracting and electing outstanding candidates."
